Template Types
Template types categorise your templates by purpose — Inspection, Audit, Safety Checklist, Daily Diary, and more. Each type carries a prefix that feeds into automatic document numbering, so your reports are consistently identified across the platform.
What Are Template Types?
A template type is a category label assigned to each template. Types help you:
- Organise — filter and browse templates by category on the templates list page
- Identify — instantly recognise what kind of form a template is from its type badge
- Number — generate consistent document numbers with type-specific prefixes
Every template must have a type. You select it when creating a new template.
Prefixes and Document Numbering
Each template type has a 2–4 character prefix that is used in automatic document numbering. When a report is created from a template, it receives a document number that includes the type prefix:
| Template Type | Prefix | Example Document Numbers |
|---|---|---|
| Inspection | INS | INS-001, INS-002, INS-003 |
| Audit | AUD | AUD-001, AUD-002 |
| Safety Checklist | SAF | SAF-001, SAF-002 |
| Daily Diary | DD | DD-001, DD-002 |
| Progress Claim | PC | PC-001, PC-002 |
Numbers increment automatically and are unique within their scope (organisation or project). This means you get a clean, sequential numbering system without any manual effort.

ℹ️ Did you know?
Document numbers are assigned automatically when a report is created. The prefix comes from the template's type, and the number increments sequentially within the template's scope. You never need to manually assign or track numbers — Pasco Cloud handles it for you. Learn more in Document Numbering.
Platform-Provided Types
Pasco Cloud comes with a set of standard template types that cover common construction workflows:
- Inspection — site inspections, quality inspections, defect inspections
- Audit — compliance audits, safety audits, environmental audits
- Safety Checklist — pre-start checklists, toolbox talk records, hazard assessments
- Daily Diary — daily site records, progress logs
- Progress Claim — payment claim documentation
- Variation — contract variation records
- Extension of Time — EOT claim documentation
- General — a catch-all for forms that do not fit other categories
These types are available to all users and cover the most common use cases in construction project management.
Choosing the Right Type
When creating a template, pick the type that best describes its purpose. This affects:
- How it appears in lists — templates are filterable by type, so choosing the right one helps your team find forms quickly
- Document number prefix — reports will carry the type's prefix, so choose a type that makes sense when reading document numbers
- Library browsing — the public template library is organised by type
If none of the standard types fit, use General or check if a more specific type has been added to the platform.
