Getting Started

Why a New Platform?

The construction industry is not short on software. There are dozens of platforms that promise to digitise your workflows and make your team more productive. So why build another one? Because the existing options share a set of frustrations that construction teams have been putting up with for too long.

Pasco Cloud was built to address six specific pain points that we kept hearing from builders, contractors, and project managers across Australia and New Zealand.

1. Too Much Complexity

Most construction platforms were designed for enterprise teams with dedicated administrators and training budgets. They are packed with features that the majority of users never touch, buried behind layers of menus and configuration screens.

The result? Your team spends more time learning the software than doing their actual work. New users need training sessions. Simple tasks require too many clicks. And the people who need the tools most β€” site supervisors, subcontractors, apprentices β€” give up and go back to paper.

How Pasco Cloud is different: Pasco Cloud is designed to be simple enough that anyone on a construction site can pick it up without a training course. The interface is clean, navigation is straightforward, and features are organised around how construction teams actually work β€” not how software engineers think they should work.

If a new team member can not figure out how to raise an issue or complete a report within their first five minutes on the platform, that is our problem to fix β€” not theirs.

2. Painfully Slow

Speed matters more on a construction site than almost anywhere else. You are standing in the rain, holding your phone with one hand, trying to document a defect before the concrete truck arrives. The last thing you need is a loading spinner.

Many construction platforms are slow β€” especially on mobile. Heavy pages, laggy form inputs, and poor performance on patchy 4G connections make simple tasks frustrating. When the tool is slower than pen and paper, people stop using it.

How Pasco Cloud is different: Performance is a core design priority, not an afterthought. The web app uses lightweight pages with fast API responses. The mobile app is built natively with Flutter for smooth, responsive interactions. Forms load quickly, navigation is instant, and the platform is optimised for the real-world conditions of Australian and New Zealand construction sites.

We test Pasco Cloud on mid-range Android phones with average mobile connections β€” not just the latest iPhones on office Wi-Fi. If it works well on a three-year-old phone at a remote site, it works well everywhere.

3. Poor Mobile Experience

Here is a pattern you will recognise: a construction platform launches with a desktop web app, then adds a mobile app later as an afterthought. The mobile version has fewer features, clunky navigation, tiny text, and desktop layouts squeezed onto a phone screen. It feels like an obligation, not a product.

For construction teams, mobile is not a nice-to-have β€” it is where most of the work happens. Inspections, defect reports, site photos, and quick task updates all happen on-site, on a phone.

How Pasco Cloud is different: The Pasco Cloud mobile app is purpose-built for on-site use. It is not a responsive web page crammed into a phone frame. Reports, issues, tasks, and project details are all designed for touch interaction and small screens. Features like GPS capture, camera integration, and photo annotation are built specifically for the mobile experience.

πŸ’‘ Tip

Use the web app for office work β€” building templates, reviewing reports, managing your organisation. Use the mobile app for everything on-site. They sync in real time, so your team always has the latest information.

4. Rigid Workflows

Every construction team works slightly differently. The inspection forms you need for residential builds are different from commercial fitouts. Your approval process might involve one sign-off or five. Your issue categories are specific to your trade and your clients.

Many platforms force you into their predefined workflows. Fixed form structures, inflexible approval chains, one-size-fits-all templates. If the software does not match how your team works, you end up creating workarounds β€” or abandoning the tool entirely.

How Pasco Cloud is different: The template builder lets you create exactly the forms your team needs. Add any combination of fields and sections β€” text, numbers, checkboxes, dropdowns, photos, signatures, GPS locations, and more. Set up approval workflows with as many steps as you need, or skip approvals entirely for simple forms. Your templates, your rules.

5. Expensive Per-Seat Licensing

Enterprise construction platforms typically charge per user, per month. That pricing model creates a problem: the people who most need access β€” subcontractors, casual workers, suppliers, council inspectors β€” get excluded because nobody wants to pay for a seat they will use twice a month.

The result is fragmented communication. Your core team uses the platform, but everyone else gets PDFs via email and responds with text messages. The single source of truth becomes one of many sources of partial truth.

How Pasco Cloud is different: Pasco Cloud is free during the beta period, and our goal is to keep access as inclusive as possible. We believe that a platform only works when everyone on the project can use it β€” not just the people whose company is paying for it.

During the beta, every feature is available to every user at no cost. When we do introduce pricing, we will give plenty of notice and we are committed to keeping a generous free tier so that subcontractors and smaller teams are never locked out.

6. Fragmented Tools

Take a typical construction team's digital toolkit: one app for inspections, another for issue tracking, a spreadsheet for task management, email for approvals, a shared drive for photos, and a filing cabinet for contracts. Information lives in silos. Nothing connects to anything else.

When your site supervisor raises a defect, the project manager has to check three different systems to understand the context. When a report is completed, someone has to manually update the project status. When a subcontractor asks for the latest inspection, someone sends an email with an attachment that is already out of date.

How Pasco Cloud is different: Pasco Cloud brings templates, reports, issues, tasks, contracts, and project management together in one platform. Reports are linked to projects and templates. Issues have comments, attachments, and status tracking. Tasks can be assigned and tracked on Kanban boards. Everything is connected, searchable, and accessible to the people who need it.

Because everything lives in one place, you can see the full picture for any project β€” recent reports, open issues, pending tasks, and linked contracts β€” all from the project detail page.
